Andy Sissons, our Head Honcho, was given some crayons and paper to write a message as the registrations have now gone through 10,000 Beavers to camp as part of Damboree, which allowing for ratios, means ~2000 adult volunteers giving up their time to get Beavers under canvas. Here’s what he had to say:
On behalf of the Beaver Damboree organisation team, I am so chuffed to be able to announce that we have now had over 10,000 Beavers express an interest in this first Damboree event.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine we could bring something like this to fruition. It just goes to show what perseverance and determination multiplied by a small team of very dedicated leaders can achieve.
I doubt there is anyone in the Scout Movement who isn’t now aware that Beavers are allowed, indeed encouraged, to take part in the full programme that Scouting has to offer.
On behalf of our team, thank you to every single Beaver Leader and supporter who is helping make this happen.
We’ve had the exciting news from our badge partner, Karuna Badges that the first batches of badge orders are beginning to ship. Karuna even supplied us with a carefully staged photographic proof of envelopes, badges, and everything.
So far nearly 500 Silver Mentor and Blue Beaver badges have been ordered, as Damboree event organisers spanning the country start pulling their plans together, and getting those Beavers under tents, and leaders their camping permits.
Project ScapeGoat Andy Sissons is quoted as saying “Oh my word! I have just come over all emotional!!” as news broke that the much coveted badges were entering the hands of PostMan Pat, to far flung UK destinations.
If you haven’t ordered your badges yet, but want to ensure you have yours in time for your event, use our Order Form.
The ordering process for the highly coveted Gold badges, for those leaders who gain their permit as part of Damboree, will be coming soon!

354 UK Colonies, Districts or Counties (Regions) have registered interest in participating in a Facebook initiated 2018 Beaver Damboree. All parts of the UK are represented as well as the Republic of Ireland. To date up to 8075 possible Beaver attendees have been suggested.
The aim is to encourage Beaver Leaders to get their campsite permit and promote camping as an option for Beavers. Local events are planed between February and September, with June as the preferred month. 190 one day camps, 142 two day camps and 2 three or more days. 173 events will be used as the vehicle for leaders to be assessed for their Campsite Permit, and 43 as a practice camp. 22 Colonies will be drafting in support to help with the event. A number of people are asking for help to find NAA or Campsite Permit holders.
The feedback on the Registration form is incredibly positive. Comments include:
– I am also ADC and will be encouraging other groups to join mine and hopefully get some more permits issued in my district.
– We have been camping out side with our beavers for the last 5 years. They love it and so do we.
– Just gained my permit this Month (Jan 2018) so hoping to invite other colonys in the area to enable them to gain their permit.
– Fantastic idea- I’ve planned many camps with my group over the years but finally inspired to get my own permit!
